The Solid Sisters

Location: West Byford Primary School

The five “Platonic Solids” arranged in a garden setting so that students can use them as seating when they meet at these thought provoking sculptures.

The “Platonic Solids” have been around since pre historic times but they got their name from Plato who associated them with the elements, earth, air, fire and water. Later Aristotle added ether.

It is the beginning of man’s thinking about how matter is constructed, atoms – nucleus – particles.

The sculptures are fabricated from coloured concrete.
